Proposal for “Citi Bike Angel Mapper” that Optimizes Routes for Longer Distances and Feature to Plan Ahead
The project involved developing a case study based on a data analytics case and presenting it to a non-technical audience through an interactive story.
Overview
As a team, we focused on a case study we stumbled upon for Citi Bikes. It described how the company was working with "Bike Angels,"; or Citi Bike riders who get paid to move a bike from a Citi Bike station with many bikes to stations with a low inventory. However, we noticed that the routes given out to Bike Angels are relatively short in distance. One of our team members thought: "I would be a Bike Angel if I could plan my route for longer distances and do this job on my daily commute or city crossings." So, we proposed changes to the Bike Angel program by implementing a feature that will provide Angel riders with historical information on the usage trends of Citi Bike riders so they can plan their rides in advance and evenly distribute our inventory of bikes around the city.
